Book Review: “The Magnolia Story”

Hazel Darling > Life > Book Review: “The Magnolia Story”

Hey y’all!

I have made a New Year’s Resolution to read at least one book a month, so these “book reports” should be coming more often.

For Christmas I got Chip and Joanna Gaines book (with Mark Dagostino), “The Magnolia Story.” I have been so intrigued by the Fixer Upper couple for a long time, so I was DYING to get my hands on a copy of this book and learn all their secrets of amazingness.

They are seriously the most sweet, fun-loving, and hard working couple that I can think of on television. (Not that I watch TV very often…) Their success, and generosity in building others up along with themselves is what makes this couple stand out for so many. Not to mention Chips personality, and Joanna’s killer design aesthetic.

And guys…this book did not disappoint. I LOVE THIS BOOK! Here’s why…

The Magnolia Story

It is uplifting.

A common theme Joanna discusses is how to “thrive, and not just survive.” She says that if you are merely surviving in life, when a big wave of trouble heads your way you will drown. If you are thriving, however, nothing can ever get you down enough to not make it through. MIND BLOWN!

One important concept to understand, however, is that thriving in your current circumstance is different than thriving when you are successful. A lot of people in this world have that backwards. Happiness can come before success!

It is real.

They share their experiences when they were dating, when they started the entrepreneurial endeavors such as the Magnolia Market, when they started having children, when they almost lost everything… They are so real about how much debt they were in, about how sometimes they were not sure how they were going to make it. Guys, this made me feel like I am on the right path, and that as long as my family and I choose to be thriving we will be A-OK.

It is inspiring.

I seriously put this book down every night, and felt like finding a new challenge to take on, a new way to make my life better, and had a drive to continually love my husband and strengthen our relationship daily. They talk a lot about their religion in this book which is awesome! I love hearing about what other people believe and what forces guide their lives.

I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone and everyone. (Lover boy was reading it over my shoulder one day, and liked it enough that he decided to finish it too.) Whatever you believe, the life lessons packed in this easy read are invaluable and a lot of fun to be a part of.

Thanks for stopping by! Grab a copy of “The Magnolia Story” by clicking the link above and let me know what you think in the comments below! Also, I have gotten a few suggestions already, but if you have a good book to share let me know and I’d love to look into it!

xo, Adri
